Durante il soggiorno a Sant’ Agata dei Goti mi hanno parlato di tre ottimi ristoranti a Benevento: Nunzia, Dionisio e Cocotte aperto da poco. Quale migliore occasione per visitare una citta’ cosi’ importante. La sua origine e’ greca e come Napoli ha vissuto una ricchissima stratificazione etnico-culturale che si legge nel fascino dei siti archeologici anche se resta scomosciuto il mistero storico artistico del sottosuolo. La cosa che piu’ mi ha sconfortato e’ stato notare dei reperti lasciati un po’ all’ incuria dell’ uomo. Il Corso principale e’ caratterizzato da edifici di rilevanza storica che culminano con la Chiesa di Santa Sofia edificata da Arechi Duca Longobardo. La particolarita’ di questa citta’ sono le stradine interne che formano un labirinto; alcune di queste sono state rivalutate con i fondi della Comunita’ Europea come la location del ristorante DIONISIO. Benevento e’ famosa in particolar modo per le streghe: le famose janare e proprio a loro e’ dedicato un museo che consiglio di visitare. C’e’ un bel viavai sul Corso primcipale, negozi interessanti e altrettanti bar dove il marchio del liquore Strega, tipico della zona, e’ molto gettonato. Questa citta’ , purtroppo, ha subito bombardamenti e terremoti: del Duomo e’ rimasta solo la facciata originale e altri edifici sono stati ricostruiti grazie all’ Arcivescovo Orsini, futuro Papa, che fu celebrato come “nuovo fondatore della citta’”. Benevento e tutta la zona circostante meritano di essere visitate e rivalutate perche’ ricche di tesori inestimabili: siti che scandiscono il tempo dei fasti delle dominazioni passate.

Its origin is Greek and like Naples it has experienced a very rich ethnic-cultural stratification that can be read in the fascination of archaeological sites even if the artistic and historical mystery of the subsoil remains unknown. The thing that most discouraged me was to see some artifacts left a little to the carelessness of man. The main street is characterized by buildings of historical importance that culminate with the Church of Santa Sofia built by Arechi Duca Longobardo. The peculiarity of this city are the internal streets that form a labyrinth; some of these have been revalued with funds from the European Community such as the DIONISIO restaurant location. Benevento is famous especially for witches: the famous janare and a museum is dedicated to them that I recommend to visit. There is a nice comings and goings on the main course, interesting shops and as many bars where the Strega liqueur brand, typical of the area, is very popular. This city, unfortunately, suffered bombings and earthquakes: only the original façade remained of the Cathedral and other buildings were rebuilt thanks to the Archbishop Orsini, future Pope, who he was celebrated as “new founder of the city”.Benevento and all the surrounding area deserve to be visited and re-evaluated because they are rich in priceless treasures: sites that mark the time of the glories of past dominations.
